It's Christmas time and here in the Schools, Colleges, Community and Outreach department (SCCO), we see that as the perfect opportunity to up our charity work to make sure everyone in our community has a merry Christmas.
So, it's time for us to gather everyone's presents ready for the 'Collect for Christmas' scheme. The scheme asks staff across NTU's 3 campuses to support one, two or all three charities: Age UK, The Salvation Army and 'Stars' for children.
"How does this work?" You ask...
Age UK and The Salvation Army requires individuals or teams to collect the items that the charities are most in need of. People send in all sorts from a box of mince pies to hampers brimming over with goodies! Diane, who is in charge of the scheme, says that she has tried to weigh everyone's contributions before but it was off the scale! Now, she has to count boxes/bags (much easier).

'Stars' come from the Children and Families Early Help Services at Nottingham City Council. Each 'star' has a child's name and age on it then it is down to our staff to buy a gift specifically for that child. This makes it much more of a personalised present and the young person will know that someone here at NTU really cares and is thinking about them.

The 'Collect for Christmas' campaign grows year on year. This year, the staff across NTU have bought 430 presents for children and young people that they don't know and will never meet!
Diane says:
"I am always so pleased to be able to tell the charities that NTU staff have donated all these wonderful items and I am amazed at the care and generosity that the the participating staff have gone to to make someone that they don't know feel valued and special."
The pile in SCCO is constantly growing with more and more kind donations from NTU staff. |
If you haven't yet given to charity or volunteered, what better time to start than Christmas?
