Spooky Halloween Crafts

It's Halloween on Monday which is the perfect excuse to turn your hand at some fun crafts or recipes perfect for the day. They are all really simple to make, look very effective and are fun too!

1. Eyeball Snot-Tail
If you're planning on throwing a Halloween party or just want a way to make your jelly spooky, these are perfect. Also, you don't need many ingredients to make these slimy, snotty desserts and they are so simple to make.

We picked up these skull shaped tumblers and the eyeballs from Poundland which also keeps this recipe nice and low budget.

To make our Eyeball Snot-Tail's, simply buy some lime jelly and follow the instructions on the back of the packet to make up your snotty mixture.

We put the eyeballs into the jelly before it was set so your guests can have a spooky surprise when they reach the end of the jelly. We also popped some in just before it was fully set to make them float. (Can you see how the blue eye is floating perfectly in the skull's socket in the photo?)

2. Creepy Pumpkins
You can't celebrate Halloween without carving pumpkins. You can pick them up really cheap in most places and they seem to be everywhere at the moment.

We went for the 'classic' pumpkin look with the triangle eyes and nose but you can be as creative as you like with it. People can actually carve pictures of Frankenstein and Dracula! Here's a step-by-step guide to how we produced our glittery pumpkin.

1. Cut about 1-2 inches around the stalk of your pumpkin. You need to cut deeply so you can pull the top of the reveal the insides of the pumpkin.
2. Once you have pulled the top off pull out the middle of the pumpkin and discard or you could put aside to make something like pumpkin soup.
3. Now, draw onto the pumpkin where you would like to cut out.
4. Now to carve around your drawn on lines! (Be careful when cutting out the shapes and always remember ask an adult if you are not old enough to handle a knife.)
5. Once we had carved the shapes out we put PVA glue all around the edges of where we had carved. We chose to put silver glitter onto the glue but you can use any colour you like.
6. Tap the pumpkin so all the excess glitter falls off and voila! You have your glittery pumpkin.

3. Spider Web Pizzas
These pizzas are so simple to make, really yummy and are covered in spiders so you can't get much creepier. Follow our step-by-step guide on how to re-create them.

You will need:
- Puff pastry
- Tomato puree
- Mozzarella slices
- Fake spiders

1. Cut off cubes of puff pastry and roll in whatever size circle you would like. We opted for smaller circles so they could be used as finger food at a spooky Halloween party.
2. Then, squirt some tomato puree in the middle and spread all over the pizza. This will be your base.
3. It's important to put your pizzas in for around 10-15 minutes now before you put the cheese on because the cheese won't keep it's shape if you put it on now.
4. Whilst you are waiting for it to cook you can start on your cheese spiders web. We opted for sliced mozzarella because it is easier to make the shape of the spiders web. Cut it into thin strips. (These will make up your web).
5. Take your pizzas out and place the strips on like a spider's web. (You can look at our photos below for a guide).
6. Put the pizzas back in for another 5 minutes, checking regularly to make sure it's not cooking too much to lose its shape.

4. Ghostly Lanterns
These ghostly lanterns are perfect to pop around the house to create a spooky atmosphere. You can make these so easily with just a few materials.

You will need:
- A jar
- Coloured tissue paper
- Scissors
- Battery operated fairy lights

1. First, find your jar. We used a mason jar with a lid but you could put them in old jam jars if you have any lying around!
2. Then, get some tissue paper and line the jar. We used orange because we thought it looked great with the black silhouettes.
3. Find some spooky silhouettes copy or print out and trace around and cut them out. We did a bat, a couple of moons and a pumpkin shape.
4. Pop them in between your coloured tissue paper and the jar so they can be seen on the outside.
5. Lastly, put your fairy lights into the jar and turn off the lights to see your ghostly lantern shine!
